Transplanting to Larger Containers

Once your Golden Mustache plant reaches 20-30cm in height, it is time to transplant it to a larger pot. This proccess is very easy as long as you are careful with the delicate stem of the plants. This method will also work for further transplants, although it will be very difficult to transplant plants with stems over 1 meter in length. The Golden Mustache plants will most likely not need containers over 25cm (10in) in diameter in their lives.

Apologies, no images available. I will try to take some the next time that I transplant plants.

1: Choose a container in which to transplant your golden mustache to. Golden Mustache plants will only need a container25cm to 35cm (10-14inch) in diameter. Make sure that the container has adequate drainage at the bottom as well as a tray that is big enough.

2: Place a 1-3cm (0.5-1.5in) layer of rocks, old ceramic chunks, or eggshells at the bottom of the container to improve drainage.

3: Temporarily place the plant inside of the container. Lift it up until the old soil line is about 5cm below the top rim of the new pot. Then, measure how much vertical space is left below the old pot.

4: Fill this space with soil.

5: Remove the plant and soil from the old container. Turn the container on its side, hold the soil with one hand, and gently squeeze the bottom of the container. The plant should slide out. If it does not, tap or gently push on the bottom until the plant slides out of its container.

6: Carefully place the plant on top of the new layer of soil. Then, fill the space all around the rootball and plant with new soil. There should be a layer of approx. 1-2cm (0.5-1in) of new soil on top of the root ball, and this should be the new soil line.

6b: You can also mix some fertlizer into the new soil before you place the final 1-2cm layer.

7: Water the plant until water begins to flow out of the bottom of the container. This is important to make sure that there are pathways in the soil for water to flow out. Make sure not to overwater, otherwise amazing nutrients may leave the soil.
